EVs are not for America, maybe by 2030.

It's the best decision for all of these companies to stop producing EV trucks that people don't want, can't afford, and not efficient. I will buy EV if it can give me over 650 miles range.

So lets say 20% of the driving public turns a blind eye to thermal runaway, rapidly escalating utility rates and sketchy range in January in Michigan... There are supposedly 285 million registered vehicles in the US, let's just make it simple... .2 285000000 = 57 million cars. OK, let's keep it simple again. Let's pretend the average car gets 24 mpg and drives meh... 150 miles a week. Thats 150 / 24 = 6.25 gallon of gas a week 57000000 = 356 million gallons of gas each week. No gas, gas = bad... OK, 356 million gallons of gas needs to be replaced by charging your dead battery with an equivalent amount of ENERGY. 120,000 BTUs per gallon of icky gas. That means 120,000 * 356,000,000 = 4.27 times 10 to the 12th power! That's equal to 400 million pounds of coal. BUT WAIT, that's additional power that needs to come from new power plants yet to be built, new transmission line yet to be strung and a few more sub stations to distribute those magical electron to charge your dead battery.

Air quality? LOL, been to China lately? Mining capacity? LOL... good ideas are cheap, reality is tough.

No matter the price you'd pay? Let's say $100K is the price for that. Would you pay it?
I wouldn't, but there are many driving Tesla X and S.

As I am not rich, nor I am trying to look rich, I don't buy cars that don't fit my economic status. I want a simple, reliable and "cheap" transportation (below the $30K MSRP). So here is what BEVs should attain for me to be willing to buy one:

  • MSRP below the $30K. That's the "sweet spot" for financing, depreciation and End of Life (ELV). You can find plenty of crossover SUVs in that range.
  • Insurance. It is higher for BEVs. Currently I pay around $1K a year for full coverage on a 3 years old ICE CUV (I bought it new).
  • Financing. I won't do more than 3 years financing, unless is 0%. Compound interest in 3 years can reach 10% of the MSRP.
  • Depreciation. BEVs depreciate way faster than ICE vehicles, due to higher MSRPs and the battery life (and expensive replacement cost).
  • ELV. BEVs are, as of now, disposable vehicles. There is no point on repairing them. Plus, their longevity is limited by the battery life. Therefore, they should be cheaper than ICE vehicles.

Since I own a house, I can charge a BEV at home, so that brings another point: BEVs should not catch fire when charging or off.

I don't need a 650 miles range on my BEV, since I drive maybe 400 miles weekly. I have seen the BEVs come down in price, and maybe I'll buy one in a few years, when the technology is more mature and with less fires. But still, the point of buying a disposable car for the same price than a car that could last decades means throwing away my money.

@c0 just think if all that investment in time and product development for eVs was put into nonreciprocating/non-piston engine designs. Should have at least pursued MITREs(Microturbine Range Extenders.Way smaller batteries required to operate a vehicle.Puston engines are the worst. Accelerate the cr-p out of a piston only to stop it and accelerate it to a dead stop in the opposite direction.F=MA. D-MB!

@be Tell me that when temperatures in Michigan drop to sub-freezing temps for days on end in a row this Winter. On a positive note, you can always dead-short the electricals and warm yourself by the fire! Burrrr! Ahhh! LMAO!

@be Ford will file for bankruptcy soon, that is why Ford is switching over to ICE and hybrids.
GM, Ford, Stelantis, Rivian are all in the same boat. They can't get out of EV trucks fast enough. Tesla cuts Cyber Truck production by 50%. If there are no demands, why keep building it at a loss.

Wall Street is on to the next scam, which also requires some of the same resources EVs do - mainly POWER. Suddenly, the taxpayers need to foot the bill for 44 nuclear power plants so ChatGPT and every other hallucinating regurgitation machine can sp-t out endless slop. And just like that, no one cares about green energy, net zero or any of the other old scams.

I’ll say this though, it should be fun to watch this one crash down. And it won’t cost Ford $5B a year, which might be a plus. Although I’m sure they’ll find a way to squander those “savings.”

BEV's are not a failure. I see them driving around the Dearborn area all the time and we aren't even in California. Ford's transformation plan will put the company in a very comfortable position in 2030 when the latest Model e products gain the customers of the future.
