Leadership advice from Ivan Seidenberg

Reflecting back on the past 25+ years....wow we really had great leaders who built Verizon the right way in Seidenberg and Denny Strigl. They literally started from the bottom and moved up to CEO. It's been downhill in leadership ever since .....

From Ivan:

“Leadership is all about standards . . . those people who watch you . . . they watch how you do your work. Do you cut corners?”

“Leadership is also about respect – how you treat other people. Do you treat others as equal?”

"...when you're in a position of power, what you think is right and correct doesn’t always mean it’s right and correct. To earn respect and trust, a good leader performs the job according to the needs of the people around them, rather than their own ideas. “It wasn’t what I thought was a good job, it was what the people around me thought was a good job.”

Leading by serving the needs of others may sound counter-intuitive, but it’s an effective technique.

It was a rough 8 years watching Hans post his daily morning runs, weekly sporting events and late night concerts. We wasted 8 years with him. He was a Trojan horse.

@bk we needed their wireless assets and money....Verizon literally would not exist without Vodafone Airtouch. Ivan wanted the buyout at $50 billion...and the "F up" was after Ivan retired, Lowell McAdam overpaid and gave up $140 billion dollars. First of many F ups from McAdam.

Seidenberg f'ed up by ever involving Vodaphone in wireless. We then could not get our 1/2 back until Lowell McIdiot had to pay $130B

Agree…. Denny would of been the best Executive to correct this destruction of the 100 legacy. I remember Sammpath on stage saying we are getting ride of credo… to long. Result… Woke hirings , fabricated Volunteer Hours walking around Vz HQ campus claiming saving climate but say nothing on Ocean Wind Mills ki-ling whales on Jersey shore.

Would pay to see Denny do skip level meetings today. Stile would go up and Woke will truely leave the buildings.

Vz was built in a 100 year legacy. All it took was 8 yr European Executives unprepared and BCG Comsultant to manage off white paper theory and outsource customer relationships to India.

Impossible to think how quickly tbey destroyed the company

Having worked in Vz and followed Vz all these years…Ivan was the last Executive with standards and meritocracy. Lowell lacked execution on aqusitions… Hans and the Board failed employees and Customers. This should of been done years ago. But it’s more than Hans. The woke culture has embedded allowed for unqualified Directors and above to be integrated for years to come.

The simple fact is Vz, unlike AT&T, broke a integrity with Customers when they released private phone records of Vz Customers to the Biden appointed Special Council Jack Smith, while same request to AT&T was denied. Once that news was released the Vz Board, after 8 years of performance decline lead by Hans Executive Team, is immediately removed from office. The Board can say publicly this was based on performance but 8 years seems to say it was acceptable… until the Trump Administration said.. can you hear me now.
