We should be done with layoffs until the end of the year

I'm not saying (guessing) that our jobs are safe over the long-term. I'm saying that between now and October (or whenever the merger happens), I don't see any incentive to do a big layoff. After the merger? Yes, a bloodbath is coming. But by October, the recession might be done and finding a new job might be easier (plus, you'll have a severance). Feel free to look for jobs now, but if you can't find one, then I don't think it's so hopeless to lose sleep over!

You can accuse me of "smoking something," but my guess is as good as yours. You are looking at long-term issues with VMware, and I'm looking at February thru October, 2023.

Not sure about the bloodbath. We heard from folks who talked to them directly (in the Discovery Meetings) that BC isn’t too happy about the big attrition in certain departments. Nothing will happen in the first year- they need us to handle this massive transition.

Fiscal isn't done until Friday so I wouldn't count your eggs just yet.

They're restructuring sales next week. I wouldn't be surprised if there were layoffs because of that.

There are layoffs coming in Feb. My guess is 4k to 8k. The restructuring of accounts as they focus on the biggest accounts. If you don't think BRCM is not already calling shots you are naive.

Broadcom likes a flatter org and vmware and not flat at all.

I agree about VMware layoff. They will happen just after the acquisition.
But I don't understand why people talk about recession.
There is no recession.
Everywhere (US, EU) there is full employment, low jobless and still good demand
Layoffs in IT are happening just to fix the huge amount of hirings happened between end 2020 and 2021.
If nothing bad will happen (wars, new pandemic ecc...) things will get fix by end year / next year.

If you think you are not safe and you got 0 motivation to get on with the job you are still being paid for, leave.

You would think by now this type of argument would have died off on this site...

Everyone is responsible for their own destination / career. If you think you are safe - stop moaning and do the job you are still being paid for. If you think you are not safe and you got 0 motivation to get on with the job you are still being paid for, leave.
