Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Don’t wait any longer

I know it’s easier said then done, but my last store in kenosha wi that i was let go from last year JUST found out they’re closing, and they weren’t on the first list or the recently revised list

@mif+1kYJlOKM Finally someone gets it! So many people here don't understand bankruptcy is not free! When a company declares bankruptcy they have a lender that steps in to pay all the fees associated with it. Nobody is crazy enough to do that for BBB, this is the only reason they have not yet. They certainly don't have the money to pay it themselves. The closing of all these stores is a hail mary to see if this will entice anyone to fund it for them. If not they will go right to CH7.

Naaahhh. Unemployment that I paid into for decades will be waiting, and then I can ease into something else when I decide to.

Good luck to those thinking they are getting any severance!! Should have jumped ship months ago! I’m so happy I was offered severance and took it…and I’m out…in a new career…!!

@skk+1kYJlOKM - There a few reasons some may stay.

  1. They are waiting to be laid off so that they have income while looking for another role.
  2. They are taking courses...building their skillsets prior to departing (this is me)
  3. They plan on retiring anyway....so it's nicer to be laid off with unemployment checks rolling in than nothing at all.
  4. They are BBBY Zealots who can't imagine that it will ever shut down.
  5. They just don't want to start looking for a job yet (also me) even though they KNOW the graffiti is on the wall and the sugar has hit the fan...
  6. They know that there are certain roles that MUST exist even if the company goes into Bankruptcy (eg legal, finance, accounting, HR)

Around 200 additional stores are being put into liquidation. My old store in Grand Chute Wi was just notified earlier. Glad I got out last fall. GL to everyone and stay positive

150 more stores. Northeast mostly wiped out. No bankruptcy because nobody in their right mind will fund us through that. It is over

Yea it is all over. Got the call today. It is a lot of stores in addition to the one’s announced earlier this week. So many in my district it has to be 1-200 more company wide. Expect them to file bankruptcy at any time. The ones that the angel of death passed over today have 6 months at best. Knew it was coming as we all did. Do not trust anything you are told. Work for the check until you have something else but nothing more. They will tell you bold faced lies to keep you through shut down. Good luck to everyone.

It's almost impossible for me to feel badly for those who choose to stay. There have been so many red flags within the company for over a year now. It really kicked in for me when they drastically reduced hours last year. Then all the conversion cr-p sealed it. I started to submit applications then because that was just nuts. I mean, you don't have to quit right now. But you should at the very least take some control and try to put feelers out. Take interviews elsewhere to see what's what. Honestly, I do miss BBBY because when it was good, it was really good. It was fun and I had awesome coworkers. But waiting for the hammer to come down was stressful. Going in to work with limited stock and customers asking if we were closing was depressing. I had to leave for my peace of mind. I now make $5 more an hour, I'm full-time with benefits and I get paid weekly.

Take steps to better your situation.
