I'll never understand why they don't let us volunteer before layoffs. Every single time we lose people who want to and need to be here and people who are praying to be laid off and get severance are the ones who stay behind. Wouldn't it be better for everybody if we were offered a chance to volunteer before each layoff round?

Unimaginative, immature, mindless leadership. No original ideas. So, the question is this: Why do you hate your employees so much?
I mean, this is obvious. It has also been addressed by the board.
The layoffs are targeted to specific areas and teams. It's not a "lose 3% from anywhere" situation.
They also do not want to offer voluntary, as the people most likely to take it are:
- Those close to retirement. Who often have very large areas of knowledge, which are valuable employees with a high ROI.
- People who know they can easily find jobs in another company, i.e. highly skilled and talented individuals who (once again) are valuable to SAP.
- People already thinking of leaving (for free).
It's not complicated.
Allowing us to volunteer would deprive us of embracing the suck and doing as a “survivor” 3 jobs instead of one.
I'm with you on this one. I'd love to volunteer, but I'm sure I won't be laid off. I won't get that lucky. Instead they'll be stuck with a bunch of quiet quitters.
