Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Perception of Q employees on the job market

We are not only discouraged by the management, but very often we discourage each other. For example, why do some say that Q employees are not in high demand on the job market?

I would have to disagree with that discouraging statement because several of my colleagues have found much better jobs recently, even though there is a lot of competition in the market right now.

I left Qualcomm after 10 years for a job in the Bay Area. My salary was doubled, but frankly, my standard of living plummeted because houses cost 4x the cost of houses in San Diego. Still, I am much happier. The culture at most Bay Area companies is 12x better than the culture at Qualcomm ...

People who are in qcom are lazy, honorable technicians, they are not technically skilled in other area. They are outdated, nobody give new jobs to them.

I see tons of Qualcomm employees complain about being underpaid and not appreciated but never leave… people will stay for years complaining until they are let go and then complain after being let go…. I never understood the rationalization… but it’s definitely a cycle that has been at Q for years!

Hey @3oxa , first off, you have no idea what ex-Q people are getting paid or what their roles are at other companies, so shut your ho-e.

Secondly, in your esteemed opinion, what the definition of a "better company"? I'm sure your answer will very likely be something ridiculously shallow and superficial.

I've never met you, but my guess is, just from your post, your tone and attitude, that YOU are one of the reasons that contributes to making Q a cr@ppy company. I bet you're a manager that lost a few employees to other companies, and are a bitter little man.

Finding a job and find a better job with a raise or promotion are two different things! How many Q employees find a job at a better company and get promoted to a higher level? Or do they go to a cr---y company just to get by? Yes, anyone can move but to be in great demand means better companies are willing to pay you more and promote you to lead their people… the later is not happening

@2isd HR at Qualcomm would never fight corruption or side with employees. They will definitely pair up with the corrupt managers. Ask people who work in the PMIC group.

Agree that lots of organizations are corrupt. But not all employees are corrupt. The problem is that Qualcomm HR does not fight corruption. They actually pair up with corrupt managers if you speak up.

Because it's well known for corruption and low skilled status collectors.

I think it's a generalization. I worked for QCOM and found another job after I was laid off in 2018.

I know several people who also moved on.

If you've kept your skills up and can get through the interviews, you'll be fine.
