I was part of the 2022 purge. Conspicuously, the "realignment with core values at other divisions" that was the reason for the elimination of my position had spread to other "realigned" positions of tenured employees. Some of those positions were later reposted once the higher experienced and appropriately paid employee that once held that position was long gone. Whaaaaat? That does not happen at Comcast!
Q4 numbers stunk. No...they were abysmal. Despite the yada-yada that boring Peacock will see positive growth in 2024 let's just say that that was the company's attempt to put lipstick on a pig. Broadband is no longer the golden goose, and mobile via the Verizon backbone is only a temporary panacea. Charter Spectrum was spared a cruel Q4 only because of it's mobile launch. Now the CATV companies are all scrambling to mobile as their savior to stave off sub losses. Precious capitol has to be spent on build-outs and edge-outs as well as mid and high splits to try (key word) to get sub growth back. The customer's (who long wanted higher upload speeds to parity with their download speeds as far back as the mid 2010's) were ignored, and are now looking to fiber optic. They are even dropping paid streaming services as prices go up and product goes down. PlutoTV which is free is seeing exponential growth as more aerial antennae reappear on the roofs of American homes.
There is no doubt that Comcast will carry on as it rearranges the deck chairs on a sinking ship to stave off the flooding that is happening below decks. Meanwhile, Mr. Roberts is carrying on an interesting conversation with his senior corporate elite in the first class smoking lounge on the merits of customer surveys and that "nifty" voice remote that he is sure will save the day.
I wish the best of luck to Comcast'ers out there (looking at you field personnel and our wonderful CAE's and support staff), but I fear 2023 may look rough.
