Judging by what people write here, there are many new hires among the impacted?

The executives making the decisions on who to cut try to balance out a number of factors. Value of the role to the organization, performance, salary, length of service, team fit, risk of lawsuits based on age, DEI, etc... Some of these decisions are fair and objective, if you are having a layoff it's good to eliminate the driftwood in your organization and the people / teams that are not providing value. Sometimes these factors along with personal relationships with management result in the wrong people being cut / retained.
I am sure you can look at some of the people who were let go and question why they were cut and conversely look at some that were retained and question why they're still around. Rarely do all the decisions make sense, sadly the people who make poor choices in this area will rarely be held accountable for bad their bad decisions.
All we can do is support the people who lost their job and wish the ones that are left to pick up the workload the best.
If you fire an older worker, you have to balance that with firing a younger worker. At the corp level it has to balance out. Take a guess why?
My team got hit with over 70% laid off. It hit people with 22 years snd people with 18 months. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason behind the cuts and they shifted 70% of our workload to APAC who is already under staffed… but hey they’re cheaper so I guess that’s what matters, not the people we are supposed to help
Anyone is Instaclustr affected? Will it be affected?
The older senior talent, especially those in the bay area, makes sense as far as saving money.
My team mostly new hires were laid off. only a couple higher ups
So far everyone impacted that I know were 10+ years.
My team it was the new hires axed. On the other hand, I've made numerous comments on various threads, so you may have seen me several times and found a pattern that isn't necessarily there.
Idk about people over the last handful of months, but the people I know who joined 8 months to a year and a half were all safe. Mostly long time veterans were who I saw get nixed.
