SAP, according to Gartner, has been a cloud ERP laggard for several years.
Without addressing client independent config and development (don’t get me going on BTP and integration frameworks) it is hard to see how we close the gap.
The product delivery roadmaps are not completely aligned driving significant customer costs to test and train multiple times.
Before talking to investors, talk to our customers to understand requirements and fix the basics.
Another core capability where we are laggards is change and release management. Our competitors don’t require 3 clouds environments or 5+ on-premise landscapes (N+1) pushed by premier services. The resultant high incident rates, high infrastructure cost, and lower rates of innovation significantly reduce business value. The concept of an upgrade is foreign to our competitor products while our fastest upgrades require a min of 4 months. Lost productivity and innovation potential. In short - all cost and no benefit.
So to our board member … define the core, invest to drive competitive advantages, and lay off the moonshine. You’re embarrassing yourselves before customers and employees.
