Thread regarding First American Corp. layoffs

Layoffs have been happening for weeks

If your team hasn't been impacted yet, consider yourself lucky. Just ask around and you'll see. It might not be one huge layoff like with most other companies right now, but people are definitely being shown the door. I'd prefer it if everybody was laid off at once, this constant anticipation is exhausting.

Forget about going fast how about working for them since the 70s and they offer you a voluntary retirement and when you don’t voluntary retire suddenly it’s not voluntary anymore they let you go. They don’t care about dedication sad
Not the same company going downhill fast

My boss was neutered a long time ago. So many men at FA are girly boys probably never got in a fight their whole life.

Or it will be a random call from your boss, you might think oh he wants to talk about a deal... and little did you know the call is to lay you off.

The answer is that so many employees still left are desperate. The title industry has been flat for three years, there can only be so many people that can straighten office supplies. My long time boss was so desperate, intimidated by a series of his female superiors that he was afraid to suggest changes in the branches. The do nothing submissiveness was crazy. Most of them are there to see how long they can collect their salary, I collected mine for a long time.

Things to watch out for. 1. It'll usually be around mid week, not Friday like you'd expect. Of course this may change depending on the specific situation. 2. Your manager (with another manager above them) and an HR rep will suddenly request a meeting with you only. They won't detail what it's about. It'll say some innocent phrase like 'catching up'.

These layoffs are coming down from corporate without care.. You are just a number to them, not a person with responsibilities (kids, family etc.). Don't fall for the jargon of they 'care' and 'family'. Until the end of February at least, everyone is at risk that isn't a manager or has deep connections within the company and can move around to different teams/divisions.

If you even have any inkling that you are next, do yourself a favor and plan ahead by updating your resume and look for another position/job. You won't be given any notice that something is going to happen nor warning. So use your intuition and common sense. Lastly, they will have made the decision days or weeks in advance and yes, your manager is fully aware of what is going to happen to you ahead of time, so again, watch for the warning signs...and never, ever trust anyone that says your job is safe.
