This may come as a shock, but Google, Amazon, Twitter, etc. do not exist to give people cushy jobs. They grew fat when the money was rolling in and now that the economy is turning they have to lean out the workforce and just keep the necessary resources to grow.
If the recent TikTok videos along the line of "...a day in the life of [blank] at Google ..." are even remotely close then the company clearly lost its focus. All these free latte's, meals and massage chairs but now one seems to be actually working.
