Happened to me 8 years ago. Promoted, pay raise, but project got cut. Nothing unusual folks.
As shown below in US government data, job market is still very strong unlike Fed had expected by raising rate sharply.
That's why big techs with tons of high earners are slashing their employees and making them poorer. In fact that helps fighting inflation in a manipulated way.

You can see what's happening from Harvard professor Larry Summers comment on fighting high inflation a couple of weeks ago. He said "must" and also meant high earners. Manipulated war against inflation.
