Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

For those of you still concerned about the neighborhood store list

The neighborhood store list released in Feb 2020 was only a list of stores that potentially "COULD" close. Not "WOULD" close. There was never any guarantee. It was essentially a list which stores where on probation for underperforming and would be closed if things didn't pick up at those sites. The neighborhood stores that have not been closed to this point have picked things up since the February 2020 announcement so they are essentially off probation.

There is no more neighborhood store list. Now, the only 2 ways a store gets announced to close is:

  1. The lease is up on the building that Macy's leases.
  2. Mall owners want to acquire the property that Macy's owns for future redevelopment.

I guess I do find it a bit hard to believe that they do not want to close any more stores. There are some Macy’s locations where they are dated as he-l and there’s hardly anybody that shows up, including workers…
I read that they want to keep a lot of locations that they formally wanted to close because of online pick up traffic. I don’t know why they won’t just build a freestanding backstage with a courtesy customer service counter? That way they can justify closing these underperforming locations and save more money.

So It was a fake list?!? 🤔😰 Because a TON of Macys stores (at least 50 by my last count) are heavily underperforming compared to the top 100-150.

It’s almost embarrassing the difference in revenue between these stores.

This guy knows. All of the Macy’s that are closing this year were all cash flow positive. ISM allows stores to be open but operate on a barebones staff. Neighborhood stores have 1 ‘General Store Manager’ , 1 Omni Ops, 1 Style MM, 1 MBA, 2 CXM’s , and 2 Captains
