Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

Refocusing on AI

Good luck to everyone looking for a new job! What happens next here is no longer my problem because I too am one of those who are laid off despite a good performance. Even so, I am still interested in whether the company's turn to AI will turn out to be a good move...

I know of a few coders of fairly large companies that use ChatGPT to generate code, debug to fix the ChatGPT generated code and have saved tons of hours. Isn't this working smarter as they only put in a few hours in a day versus coding all day long?

Expect AI to make a whole slew of companies making useless, unusable, and unfinished products. Investors will pour money into these companies after their founders tell them they are using AI. I've used ChatGPT to generate code. It looks right, but it doesn't work, especially if it's too complicated of a query. If you didn't know how it functionally works, you might as well write everything from scratch. Think about the useless science projects Google employees work on. Now multiply that by a 100.
