Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Better to be laid off now than when Broadcom takes over

Think about it, Broadcom will do all in its power to reduce its layoff-related costs. I know VMware doesn't have an especially good severance package as it is, but it will look like a prize once we start getting whatever Broadcom decides is enough. And trust me, it will not be enough, not by a long shot. If there are layoffs today, I hope I'm one of them.

I did see in the sec filing that severance would be the same as VMware for a year but that is for continuing employees.

Does anyone know what the severance package will be if you’re laid off on day one?

Honestly, anyone making statements such as this is clearly part of the bloat we are experiencing at VMware.

Hopefully someone will grant your wish of being let go.

"I remember it was said by someone that for the first year after the acquisition Broadcom needs to pay the same severance package of VMware."

That's actually in the purchase agreement. Severance and other HR like benefits are to remain equal to the VMware existing policies for 12 months past the close date.

Now with the said the question is WHAT will actually be in the packages. I can tell you the Citrix/CSG packages right now are richer (for the US at least) than Citrix's generic corporate plan. There they are seeing things like Accelerated RSU vesting as part of the package. Some are also NOT seeing a lump sum and instead are being paid out pay checks over the time the severance is covering (this could have positive tax benefits depending on your level of pay and size of severance).

We can't assume this package here will be "richer" than required. but accelerated RSUs like we are seeing at Citrix could be a big deal for some people.

Broadcom has historically has offered very good severance packages from what I have heard from former Symantec employees.
