Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Job market trends

I am worried about how long my search for a new job will take. It seems to me that I will have to accept a worse offer than what I had here. Do you think the situation on the job market will get even worse in the future or will it start to improve? Any guesses?

Not sure if the last comment was directed to me or not. I replied to the troll saying I needed meds…

Anyway, that’s the thing the job market isn’t bad. The industry you’d probably targeting is. If you are trying to target tech or anything similar to Nielsen, you gotta be competitive as I said. Not to be condescending but you literally have highly qualified highly educated professionals in the job market right now. That will gladly pick those with the most experience and education from these big named companies over those that don’t have that. I’d suggest looking for transferable skilled jobs in healthcare and education. Administration in school you don’t have to teach. People will have to probably come off their high horse a bit with salary expectations. Work is there, the salary many people want though, is just competition now.

No I didn’t lie at all. I just have education and experience you probably don’t. I also have zero pride and know if push comes to shove I can and will go with a part time gig to make ends meet. That’s most likely your issue you may be stuck applying for jobs you think you are competing for meanwhile someone like me with a Masters Degree in Analytics and Bachelor in Data Science is your competition. Lesson here? Be humble. I qualify for high paying jobs but working a lower paying one is not beneath me depending on my situation. Good luck finding work though.

My previous reply got cut off. I’m to the point where I’m referring recruiters to other people when they call me with roles I no longer want as my final selections. Bottom line check your resume and where you are applying and the time of day matters too. I think many of us have been at Nielsen for so long some of y’all may not know how to truly look for a job anymore. Especially if you had years of tenure you can’t do what you did 15 years ago and think your gonna be competitive. Additionally, if you don’t have a degree you are less desirable I don’t say this to be mean but you are competing with a flooded market of almost 250,000 tech geeks with bachelors and MBAs right now. So either lie and figure out a way to fake it later or use this time to go get some education because with 250,000 educated people looking for good paying jobs your competition just got harder

I can definitely tell you it all depends where you live. I got laid off 1/11 and I have had 4 interviews and have two job offers and three more pending. The roles and companies very from UPS as a package handler making $19 bucks got that one in my bed at 2am got an offer instantly and uploaded my ID and got a start date to Deloitte as a Director. It’s your resume and where you live and how you network. This is not a bad job market it’s about your resume and where you are applying. Do NOT apply for jobs on LinkedIn or Indeed if you are doing this that’s the issue. I putting by our job responsibilities on your resume that’s also the issue. That’s a no no. Don’t have a degree listed on your resume another issue. I can give tips for days. I got another interview emailed tonight for American Airlines so I agree with the person that said it hasn’t been hard. Some may not no the insights and secrets for being competitive in the job market after being with the same company for so long.

For anyone interested that ends up being out of work for a long time, you should really look into doing a side hustle in the gig economy like Doordash and Uber Eats. I know, it sounds beneath you but trust me you can make $1,000 a week doing it assuming you have a decent car. Not bad money especially for you single folks with no dependents. I did it for a few months and loved the freedom of working whenever I felt like it while making good money driving around in my car listening to music all day. Think about it.

Offers are getting withdrawn. The job postings I saw a few weeks ago have been removed. Who is getting multiple offers?

We're in recession, offers won't overflow the market :(

How on earth do some people already have offers?! It hasn't even been two weeks. I think with all the recent tech layoffs from top tech companies, we need to brace ourselves for the long haul

If you are able to get interviews and offers, count your lucky stars. That means you have choices. Most of us aren't as lucky.

I'm on the same boat as you. I think I might take an offer that pays less but at least offers some stability which doesn't seem like I'll get here
