The Google Layoff Roadmap

OK, let me outline the 3 Year layoff roadmap plan for these growth companies like Google.

  • - layoff phase 1
  • - infighting between different business units
  • - back stabbing
  • - project scrutiny
  • - teams merging
  • - more back stabbing
  • - overlapping program cancellations
  • - toxic environment

And the Managers and Directors and above would do anything to save their neck. Sad Google has become like Cisco and VmWare where they have made layoffs into an art.

as the original poster who called out the 22k number, rest assured this number will be met and exceeded. This is round 1 only. The first ever layoff is the hardest, and the way Google handled it was amateurish, at best. The followup ones will be done in a more humane way, BUT, your severance packages will not be as good

190k salaried employees, 150k+ contract workers. Even in the high flying 1990's you did not have such big companies.

the first ever layoff is always the toughest ...... after that, 2+ layoffs a year becomes the norm.

This is how all of corporate america is. It's just that tech/google has been a growth story for a long time and employees aren't used to cyclical layoffs.

This is so accurate! I am in amazement at the arrogance of so many on this board who think google is immune from the way layoffs work and play out and think. That kind of thinking contributes to company’s failing. You cannot rest on your brand forever.

Wait and see how the advocates of "Openness" and "Knowledge Sharing" turn into hoarders of information and knowledge. Insecurity would change the culture of a whole company.

Yep, layoffs are now the norm for google. The bridge was crossed, now it’s just another knob to pull in the future.
