I am just curious didn't you all at amazon get paid tons of money and did you not save it? many of you should be able to retire with all the sign on bonus and on going bonus money. Am I mislead in my thinking? You all should leave as millionaires. Better off than many american's i know.

Your post is childish.
Based on how brutal the environment is at Amazon people get fired or burned out in a few years. Without the longevity it's impossible to be independently wealthy.
Lol, the tech industry is a scam. Thanks gramps, keep yelling at those dang kids on your front lawn.
No i live in an area that use to be decent to live in before the Amazon high paid employees drove up the real estate! Life was good before the tech kids came in to buy up houses in droves who ends up suffering after all? Everyone that gave into the scam of the tech industry. Who cares about Alexa all its used for is to change the radio station. amazon broke the economy and now as you see entitled employees are losing high paying jobs.
Wow what a tone deaf post. Seriously you have zero clue how this impacts various people. You probably live in a state that costs $150k to buy a home. Most Amazon employees live in high cost areas where you can’t even buy a house for under $500k and even that is a fixer upper.
Get a clue!
Simple math for US employees:
o Stock tanked (most of comp in RSU's)
o Worthless RSU's and 401K match take forever to vest
o Silly limits on after-tax 401K
o 401K match is tiny
o Very high taxes and costs of living in certain states
o Expensive health care system with many exclusions in health plans
How long is the typical vesting period on the issued stock? I thought some levels got the bonus quarterly.
You do know that some people who got stock have seen it drop by almost 50% since issued and before they could cash it in, right? It's not a small percentage of the total comp package either.
You’re not wrong, but lifestyle creep traps a lot of people. It also doesn’t help that a lot of Amazon employees live in high COL areas.
There was even somebody in a higher paid position anonymously asking if taking a side job was allowed because they needed to “feed their family.”
Seemed a bit tone deaf because technical positions of that nature clear 150K easy, and there’s tons of FC and other ground level onsite techs and engineers not making anywhere near that.
Many laid off were pretty far from six figures and for those I understand not having the runway to manage a sudden job loss.
