I received the email this morning and was taken aback because of my position in the company. It's a business, but I'm hearing from many people who were also laid off that it affected many areas. I heard that people were laid off in new divisions such as Google public sector, engineering, and other alphabet areas.

My badge still works even though I got the layoff email. Will be going to the office for the free lunch 'n dinner then use the gym. I live 5 minutes away.
That was fast and a big surprise. Badge does not work any more.
Severe and widespread in Google Cloud. 13 of 17 engineers on my team gone, including our director. US employees were told at 4 am this morning in an email, and then were cut off from our internal systems. Non-US employees are in a rather stressful waiting game due to local regulations. Some offices cut off badge access entirely early this morning - people were told to meet in a certain location (e.g. 2nd floor of the NYC office) to learn of their fate.
Are all the layoffs announced yet or are they going to happen in phases
Cloud had quite a few, have heard recruiting, some in GPS, some in Engineering, some in DC... it seems it hit the whole company

Sorry to hear that bro. But if you are US-based, at least you have Social Security. Ex-Googlers are in huge demand in other companies. Try to join a non-Tech company.
