Amazon employees say they were laid off by email: ‘Your role has been eliminated’

Fired Amazon workers griped about the e-retail giant using email to inform them they were no longer needed by the company, according to a published report.
At least five employees who were laid off Wednesday said they received a cold-blooded missive from management, according to Insider.

What's the point of meeting your manager when you know it's been eliminated? Begging for your manager to give your job back???

I was laid off years back from ORACLE. I am EU based.

I had a 15 minutes meeting scheduled in my calendar and my manager and an HR rep joined the call.

My manager read a 3 line script and said "the HR will take it from here". Note that the manager is USA based.

The HR lady was so in shock about the way he dealt with me (I am the only member of his team in EU).

Honestly, I'd rather have received an email that my role is terminated along with a meeting invite to know what are my severance details, etc. or an email asking me to schedule a call with HR. Talking to my former manager that day never leaves my memory.

I'm guessing the managers, or manager, of these 5 employees were also let go and maybe unexpectedly. Just guessing, but clearly something went wrong because it's only 5 out of 18k employees.
