H1B fees hurt the bottom line.
Good luck all
Guess its a good thing Google never read my resumes I sent. Too bad that they won't consider anyone unless they have an advanced degree. And in the end all of those "smart" people were unable to prevent Google from more or less getting its a-s handed to itself by a small chatbot startup that shows a better way to do a simple search.
Sorry to all of those laid off. Get out that resume and start applying. That is a very good name to have on a resume.
Does anyone know about impact in cloud? Specifically Durham?
Evil begets Evil. Would someone please so the world a favor set up a job to rm -Rf /* all your servers.
Google Cloud to be hard hit ?
I accepted a FAANG job 6 months ago. I wouldn't have accepted it today and have stayed in my old job.
I suspect this is laying off all the low hiring bar hires over the past 2 years? Hiring for the sake of hiring.
Any hint on which orgs are affected the most?
whew, glad i didn’t get the job at google
Microsoft and Google announcing these while the CEOs are in Davos for the WEF summit is just conspiracy fuel. Rampant overhiring during the pandemic to appease the wall street analysts and justify their booming stock price rather than their free cash flow and bottom line.
All thee FAANG type CEOs have been raking it in for 12 years in an inflated market due to record low interest rates and suddenly it's armageddon after 6 months of moderate interest rates.
We'll know soon enough whether they were as talented as their Executive MBAs claimed or whether it was just stock buybacks and loose monetary policy tailwinds.
See you all in the next tech bubble!
Not a bad email, and a decent follow up on the ones that are affected.
It is also a reminder that ki----g yourself slowly at the workplace is meaningless. Management has no responsibility to you, and no promise is certain.
It’s your responsibility to take care of yourself.
My take, don’t be bitter. Take the severance as soon as possible and get back on your feet.
Having Google on your resume is a very good thing.

I guess someone has to write this comment:
I take full responsibility for the decisions that led us here
As usual, he says nothing more what the consequences for him are.
It seems like all of the FAANGs have made severe strategic cockups when it comes to hiring lately. I wonder if it will affect their longterm attraction as employers.
