Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Is the grass much greener with competitors?

I don't know if our managers purposely try to make us feel miserable, but that's how it seems to me sometimes. Instead of trying to get the best out of people, my manager is an expert at how to demotivate and drive away people who then go to competitors.
I wouldn't want to idealize the competition, but the experiences I hear from some former coworkers is that the competition is much better in almost everything.

I worked over twenty years in grocery stores. 12 with WFM. TL and ASTL. I walked out when OTS was being rolled out. IT’S NEVER GONNA GET BETTER THAN IT IS NOW. WFM used to be a really great place to work if you chose to work retail. Those days are gone. Go to school. Trade school especially. Learn a real skill. GET OUT WHILE YOU ARE YOUNG!!!!! Retail is not a career. It’s a baby step above fast food.

I agree with angry anon above. It's retail, profits are low in this business especially now with costs being. Do not expect things to magically get better. Its not 1990's Ms. Gooch anymore. Its 2023 Amazon. Don't think any of you are insulated from there layoffs. Grow up and move on!!!

Most of the Team Leaders are miserable that why they treat us that way, aside from them being control freaks.

GET OUT OF RETAIL

these arent careers, these are stepping stones to making real money. Go to trade school, go to a normal school, get to know people outside of retail and make connections. People expecting to work at WF or Mcdonalds are trying to circle a square. They will not give you a living wage (unless youre an owner which 99% of you never will be), you will not unionize with automation on the horizon.

You dont live in a third world country, there are many paths you can take to get a real career going in the USA. Drop the vitcim mentality, realize that this industry will never change for you or your revolving door of co-workers and either decide to complain about it everyday to other retail workers, or take a chance on yourself and give some value to your life by leaving it behind for something better. At the end of the day , dont ever forget no one gives a fk about any of you, so give a fk about yourself.
