Pulse Survey Pointers and Tips

It is coming soon.....
Are each of you finally going to be honest and answer truthfully? OR will you sill agree with everything and lie on it because you are scared someone will know its you who gave a bad survey?

As a former red badge I can tell you that I have sat in on these meetings once the results come out they do not know who submitted what survey.

What they do to "figure it out" is guess who typed what COMMENT and then once it was in the store managers head that the comment "Sounds just like...." their mind was made up and now that person did that particular survey.

DO NOT LEAVE COMMENTS
There would be no way to know. Your Survey would just blend in with all the other results. The only surveys you can see and pinpoint and play a guessing game with ARE THE ONES WHO LEAVE COMMENTS
Disagree or strongly disagree with everything without comments

They do not care anyway no matter what you say most of the time its blasting the store manager or a sales manager and now its being "Guessed" of who said this and suddenly you have a target on your back. I have seen it year after year

It is the comments that gives you away. One year I wrote some things to speak up for my coworkers because I knew they would not say it themselves. I was approached about those exact issues although a few of them weren't my personal issues. I didn't get in trouble but I was already seen as someone who questions corporate decision making. Which btw does not lead to promotions.

Previous red badge here as well. It's exactly like the original poster said. For sure easy to figure out based on comments. Managers know their people and how they speak, so it's not that hard to figure it out. Amazing how this is the norm across the board. Also, most of the time there are so few people that give low marks that it's easy to pin point who that is as well. Just like it was said, it's a numbers game and they are pushing from day one for a participation score. Every once in a while there might be a change at the store based on what is mentioned, but not usually. It's all to have the numbers look good. Sad to see there are still a few good executives out there trying to make a living and yet the true feeling of the company is very clear on here.

It's better not to leave comments.. no one cares and when you point out specific people...it puts yourself in a bad position

Our store leader is deceitful, unethical, shows constant favoritism , runs from any and all confrontation, covers up missed markdowns by just printing tickets and spends most of his time covering up his inability to manage the store. He is a terrible leader.

This started at the very top with the CEO and COO both of which are all that you state above.

I bet your previous store manager was 55+ been with the company over 20 years and made 150-220K per year with a pension, tons of other benefits afforded to long term colleagues and their bonus. Now let's replace that with a 75K a year store manager no pension and a third of all the benefits and bonus. They will get nearly the same results.

They want people with experience gone due to how much cost it is to the company to keep them. Look around you at how many leaders are being replaced with people half their age and probably half their salary too.....

Be honest when answering the questions.
I wish they would ask specific questions about the store leaders. Change needs to start at the top.

We got a new regional a few months ago and hopefully she sees through his lies.

It's sad when colleagues are fearful of leaving comments! It's also sad when managers aren't grown up enough to take constructive criticism and act on the suggestions!

They only ask for your number because they keep track of total store participation. You know everything’s a contest, that’s why they hound you to go take it right away so your store can be tops in participation. Knowing this, I am dragging my feet and giving them a hard time when asked to take it.

Oh I should add that your number is also inputted to link the agree/disagree responses to the manager. If the manager has five or fewer direct reports, their results are not as specific I think. I haven't seen it. I've seen the percentages get used against the managers, though. It's unfortunate but you still should be honest.

I'm an AST and I can confirm it's anonymous. You put your number in to record that you've taken it so that it can't be done multiple times. What the OP says about guessing is true, though I would add that they generally guess when the comment is about a specific thing that a specific employee never stops talking about. I know it's anonymous because the store manager goes bonkers every year trying to figure it out. No one has EVER been punished--and believe you me, they would be if she could figure it out.

I’ve given my honest opinions including comments year after year on the survey and nothing has happened to me. You guys are all too scared of everything. Of calling HR, of complaints, etc. That is why things will continue to get worse and worse. No one speaking up.

It is held against you. That was one of the job performance issues that was raised by the store manager when I was fired last year. It goes more against you when you don’t speak during their recap meetings as well.

I stopped doing these surveys the minute they made us put in our #s. They tell you they don't know its you but I don't trust this company at all. They'll ask me to do it a hundred times and I'll say no waste of time
