As a person who's been through and survived a couple of layoffs at Micron let me give some insight on your risk factor.
- NAND is typically more at risk than DRAM because DRAM is higher chunk of Micron's revenue.
- If you are in the US you are at a comparatively higher risk due to low worker protections and higher pay.
- If you are in the current node or next node of DRAM/ NAND, you are most likely safe even if you are a low performer.
- If you are in a DRAM node a few years out ( 5 years out: note that there may be competing teams for that future DRAM node and you are at somewhat of risk depending on business decisions and which way the company would go for that node. If you are a low performer in this area, you are high risk.
- If you are in a NAND node that is > 5 years out and not in the main line of NAND products. You are most likely at high risk.
- If you have been at the company for decades and at E5 you are most likely safe especially at Boise. Managers should generally be safe as well.
- If you are a NCG/ New Hire you are most likely safe. I can't speak much for this so if anyone has better insight add it in the comments. I have not heard much about NCGs at Boise being laid off.
- If you are E3, E4 and a low performer. Consider yourself a goner unless you fit #3. You make too much money to keep unlike E1 E2 low performers.
- If you are in recruiting, business stuff (such as supply chain) and not a senior member you should have been applying for jobs yesterday.
- If you are a manager, director, VP and you are on this site you know you are safe you d-mb fu-k. If you have su-ked off a manager, director, VP, or Sanjay you are safe.
