It’s a sign of truly great leadership to send exactly one plant wide email amidst all of the turmoil facing Hutchinson. How embarrassing.

Imagine This would ya. Say you knew a tornado was going to hit on a certain day. But you don’t tell anyone. Bo-m, tornado. People Lose family, Possessions etc…. Then all of a sudden everyone finds out you knew that tornado was going to hit that day. You could’ve helped everyone out tremendously, but instead you said nothing. You have now lost trust from everybody. Don’t be that person. Speak up already.

Why does management, making 7 figures or more, bring in over-priced consultants and pay them millions?

The answer is easy. I once talked to a consultant who was working for the company. He was very truthful in saying this: companies typically know what they are going to do but paying someone else millions to validate it makes them feel they did their due diligence and are off the hook morally.

Hey, don't blame us! We were only doing what Kearney told us to do.

For real, thus happens, even in the days of Desi when he knew he wanted to spin off what become the business division known as Imation. But hey, who are we to pay consultants and reject their advice? Right?

Sorry for the good folks at Hutchinson but if someone think they will only cut 140 or so. Good luck finding work when it's you they cut to reach their goal of 300 or whatever it is. Logic does not apply at 3M when it's time to cut heads again.

Good luck to all.

Why do people with decades of experience and seven-figure compensation packages need to hire consultants to do their job in the first place?

Tireman Gibbons using Kearney Group is so frigging predictable. For those who don't know, McKinsey Consulting is considered the best in-class for Consulting when you want to pay a bunch of know it alls to "design a lean organization" that cuts headcount by 15 percent and somehow (voila!) 15 percent fewer people will miraculously increase production by 20 percent. Never happens but McKinsey takes their nice cut.

Kearney is a slightly cheaper but far less competent mini-me of McKinsey. I have experienced these two companies and can at least McKinsey hires the top 10 percent of class. Kearney most likely hires those who were bottom half and not likely to get a real job at a place like 3M.

Tireman is saving millions by having Kearney proscribe the same full frontal lobotomy of Hutch like McKinsey would have offered up.

Sorry team, these consultants not only suck but are as pricey as hades.

Anyone know why Hutch? I’ve heard it’s all plants, specifically CBG plants, possibly due to the new alignment.

I think the bird you heard this from is the dodo bird! I work at Hutchinson and never have I heard a number this high!

Have heard from various sources that Hutch is currently about 140 people short between direct and indirect. The plan I was told is to just not fill those spots and keep costs to a bare minimum.

If they got rid of 300 people they would have to shut down production lines. "IF" that is the plan then all bets are off.

The fact that Hutchinson employees know that something is coming, but are not informed and not communicated to shows exactly what kind of leader ship and management we have an Hutch. We understand that this is a very complex decision with many moving parts however, management has been meeting daily if not every other day for the last three weeks and still nothing is known. Morale has never been lower and at this point I’m starting to wonder the people that do make the cut. How long will they stay with a company that doesn’t seem like they give a cr-p about their employees.

Peter Gibbons is listening to this Outsource group named the Kearny Group on making cuts to manufacturing plants. He honestly has no idea how bad he is destroying value and capacity. Mike Roman isn't leading sh-t and would not know what leadership is without hiring some consultants on how to think or reading a book. This CEO has wasted more damn money on consultants and conferences, and useless golf tournaments than all leadership teams combined. I understand that 2023 is going to be a tough year from Financials perspective but this is terribly short sighted to start gutting the plants. Why Gut manufacturing plants when you have three times as many managers than you need with Spinco and 3M Center, honestly and layers upon layers of fat and overhead. Honestly they would not know how to measure KPI, productivity from the leadership team if a frozen fish hit them up side the head. You cannot outsource all work or move it all to Costa Rica even if you save a few pennies. At some point 3M is still a material science company that needs to supply its own products. If these bozos would actually invest in some real equipment and automation, these cuts would make sense but we dulling apart sh-t everywhere you look, and beyond dated production lines They will not even buy automated slitters, and rely on outsource company's and pay through the nose for all the die cutting, and slitting needs. There is no vision with this. Leadership never looks in the mirror.
