They should get rid of the performance reviews. Managers simply promote people who agree with them. Performance reviews do more to hurt moral than help it. This has been studied over and over.
Managers refuse to eliminate them because they want the power to be able to destroy the careers of people they don’t like and promote people who agree with them.
