Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Number of employees per store

A question for those few whose time at Bed Bath and Beyond extends beyond the last five years: how many employees are working at your location today versus how many you had five years ago? Overall, we are under half the total number. We are still expected to get everything done just as we did then, of course.

When I began in 2016 we had 40.
When I left in October we had 22.

We had 1400 hours in ‘16
We had 340 when I left.

Talk about “squeeze”.

Today Saturday 1/14/22 I stopped by my old store 1003, Banners everywhere store closing sale, most merchandise 30% off, half the store shelves already empty. Did a full lap around the track, lots of people shopping for deals and I didn't see a single employee on the floor. As I walked out there were two ladies at customer service and one cashier on number two register. Should be sold out by mid February and doors locked for good.

On a store level who decides who stays? Seems a little unfair if it’s the SM and they are involved with the workers and friends with others

I joined in 16, but I can assure you at 53 the store had 19 full timers as it was a flagship for the district. After the Sept Massacre of 2020, it had 3 full timers. And at least 3 of those who were canned came crawling back on their knees to work part time. But know that the store was known for being overloaded with FTs until 2020. District was not happy over that. In fact, a couple of the FTs did little or no work, the "leads" on soft side and World Market. But having said that, the majority of the FTs were good workers.

I've been here over a decade and have atleast half the amount of part time employees and 2 less full time positions. I remember the days when we had assistants and dept managers.
