Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

How do they choose who to lay off?

As somebody asked in another thread, how do they pick who to lay off? Judging by some of the people we lost today, it's definitely not performance (some of our best people are gone) or seniority (people with over a decade were laid off over people who joined in the last year or two). If not those two things, then what is used as criteria?

AFAIK, the criteria is the slary level, as the main idea behind the layoffs is improvement of profit margins. So, whoever has higher salary are being let go without too much regard for other considerations.

Everyone that was let go on my team was a minority . They culled the people who were harder to legally fire

Criteria is simple - teams will be targeted for outsource/ integration. Then an amount of $ cost reduction is set and cascaded by business unit/team. Most at risk are therefore high paid/ OK performers, then high paid anyone..

Performance is taken into account only on 'borderline' cases. Cheap people will stay, until they too rise above a water line of cost.

I've both conducted this assessment and been a recipient of the assessment so first hand knowledge. Not recently but it's the same drill.

There was one guy on my team who had attendance issues his first year and was repeatedly missing meetings and never did any of his work and my manager openly wanted to fire him

He remained . This leads me to believe it was done signify management input

For some it was performance (my dept).
for others it was because you don’t fit into the new team realignments - everything is being restructured so remove some managers & consolidate teams

and others it seemed super random because it just makes no sense, why one person over another. i wonder if they are offshoring more roles, cancelling some projects altogether, closing locations.

basically the reasons are super varied
new nielsen owners are known for doing this slashing and reorganizing and cutting every penny they can.

Its practically guaranteed they sorted the sheet by salary of the departments with overlap.
