It’s easy to get a feel of working at target by wearing a red shirt and khaki pants with off the wall vans.

Try it sometime

Front end Guest Service and Cashier team members at target are trained and do the selling floor as well if they pick up a shift. Likewise of selling floor generalists they also pick up front end and guest service shifts. The only shifts generalists cant see if inbound r shifts which is BOH.

Most if not all our Starbucks employee's are generalists they work a few shifts in Starbucks then a few shifts on the selling floor. They have to work a minimum of one shift a week to remain certified to work in SB

A whole different world, Target has figured it out why cant Macys?
We still have call outs and not enough staff etc
Never claimed it to be sunshine and rainbows, but at the end of the day the executive team in store is positive and helping each other to figure it out, that is the difference

Love this grammar.

Merging BOH with FOH and sales is even stupider than ISM

Not all Targets are the same. Some Target employees are assigned specific area and tasks and are not generalists. Example, cashiers and front end teams.

Omg!! Customers will be able to do returns from their car? Has that started yet? That sounds like a nightmare. What the he-l are they thinking?

Macys red tents will go up in the Curbside parking area. Customers will now be able to do an online return without leaving their car. Honeywell OneX program is key to success! Just like Target Drive Up

Fulfillment is not getting "rolled in" to anything. Neither is Receiving. Come on. Take a good look at your receivers. You think they are going to go on the sales floor? Nope.

Has Macys business model turned into Target? The merchandise mix and store layouts are very different. Does this mean Macy’s will have static floor placement…floor moves no longer required? Will Macy’s cut back on selling clothing and replace them with home goods, food etc…. Macys and Target have different customer’s and merchandise. There are some overlap in assortment types…but still these stores have big differences…does the world need or want a Target copy cat? Just asking?

In response to the posts below about target….

Target has a great business model. People are interchangeable and can work the majority of the store and are trained to do so. You maybe touching different product on a daily basis but it’s all relative and the same processes. People are happier at work and it’s very much a team environment and communication is a must and it’s part of the culture. You are also treated with respect and spoken to like a human being and your work appreciated. Higher ups that come in the store know the names of hourly team members and ask about their kids and families.

There are no pre planned visits they just come in when they want (district and regionals) No horse and pony show.
And if something is not up to par or you’re behind on something they are offering help and advice on how to get back on track.

Different culture different environment and as you can see much different results

BTW, you never look for help nor do they ask customers if they need help. The Target model works! Macys copies Target and Walmart.

No more dress code
Majority of new hires are 18-20yr olds

WAKE UP People!!! It’s all about surviving and the bottom line.

Don’t you know Target’s model? Everyone does everything there!!! One day you can be unloading the truck, another day you’re assigned to the Toys area, the next day you’re managing the Pick up area, another day you’re assigned to shopping cart duty, then another day you’re assigned to do markdowns and finish your shift on the register or watching the self check out area.

Merging BOH with FOH and sales is even stupider than ISM. In case the powers that be haven't noticed, some people want and are willing to do anything and everything short of ringing. Some people just want to ring. Why mix the two. I've done everything BOH I can to help my store. But if I'm going to be mixed in with everybody and that includes ringing, they can have my notice now!

I would assume nothing will happen to AST. It is barely staffed and AST wears so many different hats. But with this company, you never know,

Something gives me the feeling that the SMM and CXM role is going to merge somehow. SMMs will play a bigger role on the sales floor. CXMs will need to take on more as it relates to floor standards. Or they might just come up with one job title that does everything like in the Foleys days. Anyone feel the same?

Is that official yet? I heard about a store manager expecting for all BOH and FF getting register trained by the end of the month or something.
