Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

I am afraid that cuts here will become more and more frequent in the future...

Any thoughts?

So they already know the names. the question is who at what level also knows?
I suspect L7+ is in awareness depending on the org (some maybe L10+).

Either way, you may be getting the smile and nod from your manager now only to get the boot next wed.

Most likely, yes. Amazon is now in a different growth phase and likely to operate more and more like legacy tech giants (Intel, HP, Dell, IBM, etc.).

Usually that’s how it works, cut, evaluate, then see make course corrections as needed.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see this semi-annually. Frugality is a LP but it’s rarely practiced, look for teams to start to run fairly lean.

Jan 18 was the "kick off" date for the "axings". I do feel this may have the potential for becoming a periodic "ritual" (the layoffs I mean). It will depend on the fallout once all 18K + some additional thousand (heard something about that from UK) are complete.

I suspect this is Jassy reading the field, seeing societal acceptance for tech layoffs as many are occurring, and pulling the layoff trigger is easier than adjusting business behavior (more of a Bezos move) esp when he can justify it with other companies doing the same.
The issue is Amazon isn't simply 'just another company' to many.... so much for that new leadership principle "Strive to Be Earth's Best Employer".... (was bezos in charge when that principle kicked in, or was jassy?)

When are we going to see Amazon start to cut? I don't see any fellow employees being let go yet.
