If I'm not, all I have to look forward to is more work. Our team is already understaffed so losing even a single person will make life a living he-l for the rest of us. At least being laid off provides a new start with a decent safety net (at least for those of us who have been here long enough).

Easier said than done. I've been with the company for 12+ years and I'm terrified of leaving now. I'd guess there are dozens left at CSG like me. I fear we are doomed, either way.
Agreed, find the courage to ask for a severance package, don't let them toy with your fears any longer. Speak up now!
