I was so annoyed by the leadership's fake empathy towards employees who were laid off.
What did they do to prevent layoffs, or at least to reduce the number of impacted employees?
I don't think they did anything. All they do is continuously lower the morale.

I think there is genuine empathy from Benioff and the leadership, but maybe they don't know how to handle the situation properly, so it's not showing.
The leadership doesn't decide on target profit margins and therefore levels of cuts required. The shareholders do. The activist shareholders don't want small savings, they want layoffs at scale to send a signal to the market. Capitalism for you.
