I have a gut feeling that we'll have difficult time recovering. The whole industry. I have 30 years of experience and I saw a ton of change, a ton of challenging, pivoting, reinventing. But now it feels different, Hollywood is in a complete disaray and thi stime it feels there is no recovery.

I was laid off in Feb 2024 - took until Dec 2024 to find a FT job (I had 8 years with the company) I did a complete and total career switch but I was not a creative, I just got out of the industry (I had been in entertainment and news though for...years just on the backend). I am even in office 5 days a week but am utterly happy. Watching this all continue and be even worse from afar the last 18+ months makes me so sad for the company I entered. Viacom was not perfect but I sure did have a blast those early day working on productions.
Feeling the same.
100% it's only gonna get worse, specially if DE gets ahold of WBD. It'll just be consolidation after consolidation with less talent coming in and progressively worse working conditions. It's gonna tough for experienced creative professionals as we can't just shift and go work for a youtuber or youtube channel as 1. they don't need us and 2. the economics are nothing alike. We may even be looking at a future where movies and shows go the way of broadcast and cable with even less young people tuning in until there's no one left. Not to mention the fever around AI. No matter where you look, the industry seems poised to shrink in the coming decades.
I feel the same lately, this entire process has tainted the love I had for the entertainment industry
I’ve been in love with the media business forever but feel like we’re coming to a breaking point. It used to be an industry where you were mistreated and underpaid for a while but eventually prospered for a long time if you could hang in there and find the right allies. Now it just seems like one big ai experiment to do as much with as little as possible. Fewer leaders and fewer coworkers for horrible work life balance. It’s really starting to not be worth it.
If by recovery you mean back to the way it was then no we're not getting that.
