Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Agile cuts and changes - Flash call this morning

Here's what we know:

Scrum masters to become "enablement lead" if you're liked enough, else made redundant

Squad leads to be "engineering lead" if you're liked enough, else made redundant

No chapter / squad leads or group chapter / squad leads

They will become delivery team lead, platform team lead.

Delivery team lead responsible for go live.

Pretty much level 7,8 and beyond are either let go or titles change.

One thing for sure, holiday AAM is going to be somber.

CapitalOne created Agile Development Leads (ADLs) 7 years ago, and then let laid off over a thousand of them a few years ago. If the take worthless Scrum Masters and rename them, Fidelity will get the same results.

It's probably for the best. If leadership can't operate a modern organization, they shouldn't try. Of course, they should probably reflect on what that means about being able to compete in a retail marketplace with Kathy Murphy over at BlackRock. Clearly, it's better to fail in a familiar way than fail with innovation.

Most of the SMs are becoming Enablement Lead or Project manager/ Program Managers.
SLs are becoming Product Leader . will be part of product or those who are not product leader will be part of engineering leader org. I don't see any big cuts. There will be few who might for location or other issues.

As a BA, I found all these people either useless or an active barrier to my work.

I am especially thrilled to see squad leads made redundant. A wonderful victory against all the a--hole squad leads who piled on all the work on me while doing nothing and at the same time sh-t talking me to the higher ups so their useless role was hidden.

@da What level is Director? L6 or L7? I thought squad leaders were already L7?

In Product and Engineering area, most of the Squad leaders will be downgraded to director level will report to Delivery Leader Or Engineering Leader as they are already people mansgers. The two in box does not mean they are peers.

@ay After doing a little research, I found that the "Enablement" title started being used in the early 2000's in other companies. I also found a good article on LinkedIn published in 2022 titled "Enablement is a Four Letter Word". As per usual, Fido is late to board the train and then rides it off the cliff.

This is entirely wrong. The squad leader becomes product lead, the chapter leader becomes engineering lead, and both are jointly responsible for the backlog. Scrum master becomes Enablement lead and is responsible for releases.

@aj honestly as a current sm, I am dreading that title, it truly is the d-mbest $hit I’ve ever heard in my life and basically compounds the already negative connotation we already have. Needless to say I am already applying elsewhere, f this $hit

RTO, BME, Agile 2.0, Colocation and now this BS.

It seems the higher ups have no other job than to keep playing musical chair and cause stress, uncertainty, anxiety to associates.

Especially doing this around the holidays goes to show how messed up the leaders are in their head, pretty sure everyone was bullied as kids to have this sadistic view.
