Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Manger is unapproachable and snarky

I need help, my new manager gives me vague ambiguous directions. I am a senior engineer that knows my job thoroughly and have done that job for several years.

When I ask for more clarity she snarks and is unapproachable. When things go wrong because I try to follow my managers orders she mocks at me saying I should know better since I am a senior engineer. She’d never listen to me first place and feels offended when I question her orders

It is so hard to figure what’s on her mind. I am just miserable. She corrects every word and sentence of my presentation

The reason satire is so funny is that there is a grain of truth in it... Last post has more like a huge chunk of reality in it -- and for this reason I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

  • Document egregious behavior soon after it happens
  • See if you can elicit the behavior in front of sympathetic witnesses
  • When you get an offer for that new job, escalate the issue (with supporting docs in tow) to your department’s HR rep and the boss of your manager
  • See what happens the next week (for your own entertainment purposes)
  • When the time is right (such as department meeting that includes the boss of your manager), announce that you leaving, and tell them the primary reason is your horrible boss.

If the bridge is useless and has toxic fumes emanating from it, burn it down. But don’t expect the b-i-itch boss to pay a price. This is Intel, she might get an award for chasing someone out the door without a package in hand.

@yhy, "open door policy" at Intel these days means that if you complain to a manager they open the front door and show you out.

@yhy+1k9fcsZo : "open door policy"? Lol. A waste of time at Intel. These rarely lead to fruitful results for the negatively impacted employee -- especially if you do not "check the right boxes" on HR's scorecard.

This is one of unintended consequence of woke practices and in particular Intel DEI. If you promote people due to their biological s-x or other immutable characteristics instead of meritocracy (Intel's core culture before DEI took over) you will have a poor performing organization and you certainly didn't help the well being of the person that was promoted without merit.

Use the open door policy via an email trail.
Using carefully selected wording request feedback on "qouted" statements or snarky comments she has made to you and how she would advise you to met her requirements in future.
Also, don't be afraid to request a skip level meeting above her position to explore how you may be getting portrayed (and steer reality of the situation while you're at it)

Your manager is clearly over her head and insecure in her job. That is a very toxic and volatile situation. I'd suggest looking for another group or company.

How do you know he can do better than Intel? Because he says he is a senior engineer with a bad manager? Maybe hardcore Twitter living in the bay area is a better landing pad? Typical bad advice from thelayoff. Keep in mind most people in here have been layed off by Intel in the past 20 years and are still really bitter and angry about it. Intel culture is to be open and direct. It will be better for you to constructively confront your manager as you have been taught while documenting everything. If you fear there will be reprisal, schedule this with an HR (HRD) representative present. If you have a track record with other managers besides this one, and that feedback did not show up in your focal, you have a solid case. After an HR investigation, she will be much nicer to you. Continue to document everything, including negative comments or unconstructive feedback until you move on to your next assignment.

She is insecure in her role and is threatened by your knowledge and experience. This has happened to me several times. On a side note you should split from intel you can do better, believe in yourself don't let this useless manager get you down. Your are better that this manager and you can do better than intel, believe that.
