Job cuts in October hit highest level for the month in 22 years

Job cuts for October totaled 153,074, a 183% surge from September and 175% higher than the same month a year ago. It was the highest level for any October since 2003 and has been the worst year for layoffs since 2009.

Companies in the technology sector announced 33,281 cuts, nearly six times the level in September.

@ca Depends what industry you are in? Mine happens to be consistently stable regardless of how the job market is. I search for jobs fairly often and there is no shortage of them, that's for sure lol.

@ar it is because of AI, but not the reason we think. I watched an economist discuss this the other day and they said a lot of tech companies are scrambling to catch up on AI server orders, and moving a lot of their cap expenditure into manufacturing and delivery, so they have to move that money from labor costs into manufacturing. So in a way, you are losing your job because of this AI bo-m.

@ak - if you believe these WFRs are due to "AI", you probably need to research more. It's all a shell game. Companies are using "AI" as an excuse to cut people.
