Thread regarding Solventum layoffs

LIES

This group is closer to penny wize, dollar foolish than most. Here's why. Remember all the times BH mentioned de-layering and reducing decision making authority? The exact opposite is true. I know this as I look at the list of job grades of those recently axed. Nothing higher than manager and overall average job grade let go is 9. At the same time we (they) mint more VP's. The consistent and frequent additions to the "C" suite ONLY increases beaurocrocy, time and effort to approve low $, low risk investments. Lastly, the severance for these folks was drastically REDUCED compared to previous January layoff. The thing about boiling frogs is, they all end up cooked. Demand leaders with integrity, not these imposters.

This is a cr-ppy company. While the layoffs were happening, they brought in another top heavy friend. Then, HIS had a meeting to introduce new people in India who are creating a VIP AI platform they say will be operational in months...more cuts?

@a6 they have a list they give to the people cut in the org. So the list I saw (shared by a person eliminated), there were 4 in that group. 3/4 were over 50. All were a JG 11 to 14. At least one of them was pension eligible.

"they don't have anyone who used to do the job that we did, and are losing contracts as a result. "

BINGO! All of Bryan's crony hires DON'T add any value and don't do any real work. And are paid 5 to 10X the salary of the worker bees who were RIF'ed. He's hired a bunch of VP Yes Men and Yes Women. The sad part is he had HC industry experience and seemed to have a plan for the future - that is, unless Peltz strolled in with billions of money from his investors and demanded "transformation" as in layoffs and spinoffs.

"I'm just smiling"

SO are any SOLV competitors who didn't foolishly lay off 20% just to satisfy some Florida guy on his yacht. They are beginning to draw away current SOLV customers.

Hey Bryan, for $40 million couldn't you have come up with a better plan?

@dj I also recall being provided with a nameless list but had generic job titles, job grades, age of employee (but not years experience) and general organization.

I believe this is now required by law. Or at least companies are providing it to (potentially) ward off age-related lawsuits.

Bryan has turned into such a schmoe. We can all thank his "boss" billionaire activist investor Nelson Peltz for yet another round of senseless cuts.

@av+1k9avt8cp I could see that. It was the phrasing, "as I look at the overall job grades of those recently axed." It's interpretation, but sounded like a broader list, and less personal than direct reports or even one layer removed.

Contrast with, "as I look at the overall job grade of the 6 people I had to let go."

@dj+1k9avt8cp That makes total sense and answers my question.

@a6 not sure about the recent round of cuts, but with the December 2024 round, every person eliminated was given a document showing total # of layoffs, age of the employee, and their job grade. This disclosure is required if it is a large round of cuts, but I’m not sure what that specific number is that requires the disclosure. It’s to show there is no age or wage bias or discrimination going on.

They are cutting out the doers. I was a JG14 manager, and they got rid of me and my entire team. I'm not bitter, because I know that it is pretty bad there now as they don't have anyone who used to do the job that we did, and are losing contracts as a result. I'm just smiling.

@a6 He's probably one layer higher that first level manager and knows who he had to let go.
