I really don't think the management has taken into consideration how an employee feels when his colleague, who was otherwise an excellent employee and a great performer, is affected. Are they aware of how demotivating it is for us who are still here? Sometimes I wonder what the ultimate goal of this kind of company management is, because I can't believe that someone who has a clear vision and wants to run a successful business, makes such bad moves. The loss of institutional knowledge is often irreparable damage.

I think every big semiconductor corporation has big issues with middle heavy structuring. Years of bullish industry conditions and better pay sitting in meetings all day. Recipe for disaster.
Agree with the previous post. Let's get rid of the middle management and the status collectors. This company has a massive overhead.
If good performers are laid off, then start searching for other jobs.
In my team, we have a bunch of useless people who keep getting 1 or 2 in their reviews. Somehow they got hired into the team but if they undergo an interview now, they will fail miserably. I worked with a lady who has been around for 3 years and she does not know how to write a nested loop to loop over a multidimensional vector, and she does know the difference between TDD and FDD in NR.
Why should we keep these folks around while we do all the work? It is time to cleanup the house.
At the end of the day, we're just a number. They need to do what will keep them profitable and retain the bonuses in the executive's pockets. Don't believe any BS about family and/or how valuable you are.
Do they care about you being de-motivated? Not really, their mindset is likely, 'Be happy you still have a job.' or if you voice your dissatisfaction, you might be on the chopping block the next round. Go figure, right?
Don't get to comfortable where ever you're working and definitely don't stick around because you want to stay loyal to the company.
