Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Did CTO announce layoffs are coming in today's all hands meeting?

In today's all hands meeting, the CTO pretty much said Citi will follow the lines of Amazon and Meta and will be laying off people. He didn't say specific numbers and exactly when but the message to me sounds like there will be layoffs coming.

AI will sooner than later replace all of our jobs at the risk of being premature and cause some global financially catastrophic error. But the economic impacts of all these job losses will be felt much sooner. You think Covid impacted small businesses and tax revenue? Wait til all these millions of people being laid off stop getting paychecks and paying income tax. No one will be able to buy all the products Amazon is selling. This AI model while logically efficient, is going to perpetuate global financial collapse. Trades will become the jobs of the future again. Ironic.

I mean duh?

Amazon isn't a special case. Its following the corporate pressure and push for effieicny, automation, doing more will less, AI etc...

Citi will 100% follow similar principles. IT may not be at the same scale. You are going to have to ask yourself this: What is the value of your job and can it be automated?
