Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

Lesson learnt

We just lost some of the best people on our team, and it finally hit me that no matter how hard you work or how good you are, the people at the top still see you as replaceable. From now on, I’m done putting work before my family just to feel secure. No more missed birthdays, no more late nights trying to prove something that doesn’t matter in the end. I'm done.

I'm speechless after reading the things people post in this forum. The USA has always been seen from Europe and other parts of the world as the place where the "American Dream" could be achieved through hard work and sacrifice.

Now I see the same corruption as here, typical of these gigantic companies, which become unmanageable due to their size, allowing immoral opportunists to enrich themselves while ruining the corporation.
I was thinking that all those unnecessary bosses here in Europe, departments created in cheaper locations under the guise of saving on salaries, but still a waste of money, since they're created solely to justify the promotions of these bosses, who in turn surround themselves with other sub-bosses and favorites who also receive their share.

The honest person, the one who gives their all out of love for their work, for the common good, ends up fired, sick, or living a nightmare watching these people, some well past retirement age, or with enough money in their bank accounts already to never have to work again for the rest of their lives. But their boundless ambition knows no limits. As long as there's a penny to put in their pockets, they'll be there like the sick vultures they are. As if they could take it with them to the grave. As if life were infinite.

No matter how much you like what the company does, it doesn't care about you. You may have lost a parent the day before, be in the middle of moving to a more expensive house or anything. As long as it isn't protected by law (pregnancy, medical license etc.) they will put you in the street the same. So never put the company ahead of important and urgent things in your life, cause they'll never do the same for you. Never feel bad for leaving them hanging or with a vacancy that'll be hard to replace if you get a better offer. Again, they'd never feel bad about leaving you hanging. Treat them as they treat you, your financial and health status matter more than the company's.

Unless you own and control the IP, every.single.person is expendable. I was let go a few years ago and came to realize that my undying dedication and hard work for this company really meant nothing. But, the tools are out there for us all to build our own empire.

No job is forever. And no one at the end of their life wished they spent more time at the office.

Good for you, family should come first!

Wish my spouse had lived this way. They gave their all to this place at the expense of myself and our children. And for what?

I made the same mistake for over a decade. Hundreds of overtime hours, long days, always hoping: One day they'll see who I really am. It never happened. I only made sacrifices to further enrich the gang of inept and corrupt bosses with their bonuses and privileges. They're the ones who have brought this corporation to its current state. No amount of sacrifice, dedication, honest work, or efficiency is worth it at this company. I regret, and will regret for the rest of my life, having been so naive. I hope the new owner is taking note of what he's bought.
