4 -Day RTO / Hotel Desking - Here to Stay?

The combination of strict 4+ Day return to office AND hotel desking is the double whammy of bad news. Think one or both could die off down the road? A lot of companies are doing 3 days with assigned desks, which I feel is far more reasonable. Hate to think this is the new normal indefinitely…

What gets me isnt even the RTO part anymore. Its how management gaslights us about everything to cover their own sc--w ups. They make decisions that wreck morale, then act like its all about “collaboration” and “team culture.” No its not. Its about control and saving face.

They act like we’re the problem for being burned out, like we’re just not “resilient” enough. Meanwhile they’re the ones hiding behind fake smiles and emails about “unity.” You can only hear so much of that before you realize they arent clueless, they’re just covering their own tracks.

@wq

"The work from home generation (although convenient and no driving to the office) does not really understand what they never had."

Everything was uphill for you wasn't it boomer? Matter of fact there wasn't even a word for downhill was there in your time right? No concept of it i bet. You just pulled yourself up by your bootstraps didn't ya buckaroo?

@wq I love the idea that a business model is built on stochastic arrivals at water coolers.

Having worked in the office 5 days a week with an assigned desk for 30 years, I believe it is/was the best model. The relationships built, the information shared in hall conversations, getting to know management personally and professionally, having mentors and being a mentor, figuring out problems with coworkers without a formal meeting, etc. were invaluable. The work from home generation (although convenient and no driving to the office) does not really understand what they never had.

Regarding parking, if some of you *ucks had your licenses revoked we'd solve the issue. I see how some of you drive in Dearborn. Really shouldn't be on the road bud.

This putz thinks RTO = work or gets you closer to it. Must be nice to be such an un-aware dull creature. What an Oaf. Please pick you knuckles up off the ground, they are making divots in the lawn.

Lol no one gives a f about California or Germany for that matter. Californians should go work for Tesla and the Germans have VAG.

I can’t believe you sniveling whiners are still going on and on about RTO. Put on your big boy pants and get your butt into the office. Wimps!

@bf None of us give a fu-k about California. This company is based in Dearborn and the stinkworks is a slap in the face.

My thinking is that the execs just wanted an excuse to be on the left coast during winter.

@am EVDD town hall was not impactful and failed to address critical operational issues. Specifically, the parking situation at Long Beach is significantly problematic due to ongoing construction and the anticipated influx of personnel from Irvine next week. This combination is expected to create a severe logistical disruption. The current proposed solution—a shuttle from a location approximately one mile away—adds an unacceptable 20-30 minutes to the daily commute before an employee can reach their desk, impacting productivity. While Security provides frequent policy updates, there is a clear lack of communication and policy clarity regarding parking. Doug can shrug it off but it will impact speed and morale.

You missed No Parking. Parking is a problem at most Ford locations and parking a mile or more away and taking a shuttle is the solution and often it is is 15 minute walk or more into the building.

People would still be pitching a fit even if it was 1 day RTO

Doug told me it was really hard getting out of his bunny slippers and driving to GFL for the EVDD town hall. Dude knows fu-k all about showing up earlier.

In the EVDD town hall DF was asked about the terrible parking situation. He basically said nothing of substance or any action, then said “show up earlier”. Thanks dipsh*t, very helpful. And the number one objective at the start of the town hall was “people”…

I suppose you could look for a job that fits your criteria. I'm sure there are plenty of them out there, but then again, you just might have to do some work...
