my manager told me he expects remote workers outside LA NY to be hit very hard this week as they plan to phase them out anyway .. if their job was needed - would rehire
this is me - he told me he doesn't have the list - who knows about that ..
anyone hear anything about this specifically -
they would have had to look specifically at where you lived and where your team was ..

@a3 Luckily (not a lucky situation but still nice) WARN is tied to the reporting structure / HQ of the company for remote workers so even if there's only 1 or 2 workers in a certain state, they still qualify for WARN based severance
But why to give severance and do rehire with a cost when they can ask an employee to relocate?
I too expect remote employees will be affected much as keeping a similar in city employee will reduce relocation cost and also no WARN payment if let go remote employees.
But if in a role only remote employee is there then possibly he/she is still safe and will be part of phase 2 process
I wouldn’t be surprised, but bear in mind that everyone is meant to be getting hit hard, so it’s not like remote workers are being singled out. That said, I know of some remote staff who originally worked in the LA offices and then moved to cheaper cities out of state while still keeping their LA salaries. I’m sure the same thing happened with people who left New York as well. I’d imagine they’re going to be the ones affected first
