Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

THOUGHTS ON RTO

I've been lurking for years and I have noticed there are two types of RTO posters. Those who don't want to give up their cushy remote job and those who are required to RTO and are extremely resentful that others are remote or have lax managers who allow their reports to coffee-swipe or ignor the requirement altogether.

Although I HATE losing my one flex day, if leadership finally standerizes RTO for EVERYONE to follow I will stand up and clap.

Thoughts:

  1. Truist should publish the mileage-to-hub guidelines for transparency. If its 35 miles, then it should be across the board. Is the 35 miles as the crow flies? Or mapquest?  It should NOT be manager discretion.  Also, they should state whether moving outside the mileage limit would result in a remote opportunity?

  2. Truist should publish the definition of 'critical' verses 'non-critical' for transparency and post it on job profiles. This way 'critical' teammates can apply for open 'non-critical' remote positions. These teammates should get first consideration for those open positions since many have mentioned they would take a pay-cut to remain remote.

  3. Truist allows teamates to purchase up to 12 vacation days. Maybe they can offer four ten hour days as an option to eligible teammates?

Commuting su-ks, I'm sure we can all agree on that, but the guidelines should be applied equeally and with 100% transparency.

And no, i'm not Bill. Just a low-level teammate who is in the same boat as everyone else.

@kb hey boomer, stop using chatgbt to generate your replies. You sound like a bootlicking dum--ss who’ll probably get laid off whether you go in the office 5 days or not.

@kb is this the same person who goes into every post to tell people if they don't like it here, leave? Do you realize what the job market is like? Do you realize if you have no job, you have no group health insurance and currently the ACA premiums are increasing exponentially? Do you never vent about anything, ever? Do you always go into posts to be contrarian because you think you are better than your teammates? Do you always love the taste of licking boots? You sound like a boomer. Maybe you should have saved more money so you could retire instead of rotting here scolding everyone that they're not saying THANK YOU SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER enough. I dunno, but no one needs your admonishment.

Bill has spoken. If you don’t like how he runs things, you’re welcome to leave. Or hey, maybe just buy enough stock to oust the CEO—because obviously everyone complaining here is just loaded, right? But since you’re venting on a forum instead of calling your broker, maybe just dust off the résumé and find a new job. You’ll end up thanking yourself later.

@a8 Best part was for people under director Jenny: in a town hall she flat out said she was voiding remote agreements and remote status across the board.

At least we now know they can arbitrarily change a deal unilaterally.

Time for a work slowdown...make them miss the metrics they want to hit for that next big merger.

@a5 this

It is simple everyone: just do what is asked or find a new job. Sitting there fuming and getting all worked up is not doing yourself any favors, it will affect your health. This is just a job, not worth all the worry and stress.

@b5 We have all been asking the same question. What is the actual mileage rule? Assuming there is one? Teammates in Richmond were told it's 50 miles? Traffic is almost as bad as Atlanta and Charlotte. Why the discrepancy? Why the hush-hush non published rule? Seems pretty suspect to me.

Can someone please explain this 35 miles thing to me? I was hired years ago in a hybrid position. I live 37 miles away. I asked my manager if I could be remote and he flat out told me no. Is it only for people who live 35 miles away that were originally classified as remote?

@as this makes no sense. No one can believe that the best talent only lies within the truist hub footprint 🤦‍♀️

its not 35 miles. It depends on who you are buddies with, whether you need to come in office, how long you need to work, how big of a raise you get. Solution is clear, bring everyone back into the office across the board. Contractor, FTE, everyone comes back.

Id say your points are spot on. You may even be correct about the types of posters.

But the reasoning for those types matter. Some of those remote users were established as remote years ago (or brought into the company as such) . The company requiring them to commute suddenly without compensation is an abuse of the company's side.

For those teams that are resentful, I get it. Envy is not something that should be held up as ok. Nor should a company make decisions based off moral flaws.

Properly, the business should develop the requirements based on job to job needs and develop remote hybrid or in office standards based off those roles.

Employees should be adult enough to evaluate the role they have and be reasonable about the real need for in office or not.

What they should not do is have a company that promotes itself as technologically advanced running itself like its the 1980s.
