Constructive Discharge to Meet Final HC?

Constructive discharge…is this how Intel will reach the final headcount for the year? So many engineers are feeling the squeeze by ‘leaders’ who saved their jobs. Psychologically safety is definitely out the window along with ADA/DEI. Perhaps Intel should consider replacing their ‘Inclusion’ company value after the 2025 layoffs.

“ While initially the chief executive of Intel said that he planned to flatten the company and reduce the number of mid-tier managers, eventually it turned out that the company had axed thousands of engineers and technicians at its Oregon facilities. In fact, only 8% of personnel that were laid off in Oregon had the word 'manager' in their job titles, whereas all the others were various engineers or technicians in various support roles.”

@m0 Spend a bit of time looking up what Amazon is doing in the warehouses with robotics. They now have machines which can feel the product they are handling, so are in their own way, moving towards the eventual replacement of many warehouse workers with humanoid robotics.

Intel is way, way downstream of the leading edge on this, but any fab worker with more than 10 years of career left should start retraining on how to support humanoid robotics.

Every generation has a tech displacement, and those in the age bracket of 10-50 are going to be challenged in new ways. Remember, the internet stopped virtually all use of paper products, and the typewriters which were used to produce those warehouses of papers.

This is just the new thing, but deal with it or be left by the roadside.

Tech companies doing far better than Intel are cutting back. Amazon is going to get rid of about 10% (30k) of their corporate headcount starting tomorrow.

They also have longer term plans of replacing 600K of warehouse workers with robotics.

Believe the rumors about Intel starting to outsource in big numbers starting next year.

@kv sure you can sue but make sure you find a lawyer who will handle the case on the contingency that they only get paid if you win. Good luck finding a good lawyer!

Inclusion is the absolutely most stupid reason to employ somebody. Both in direct costs and in opportunity costs.
