Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Has anyone declined signing the terms of your severance, to preserve your right to sue, and been offered a bigger severance?

There is no negotiating at band 6 and below. Sure, you can consult with an attorney, but in an at-will state (which most are), you'd be hard pressed to come up with sufficient grounds to sue and be able to PROVE it. If you don't sign, you forfeit your severance and could very well end up with nothing. Is it worth that?

There is no non-compete in document for 6V or below. This is for 5V and upper management only.

And yes I have known a few folks that have used legal to get a better term on their severance.

How long is the non compete? And does the vsp also have a non compete?

@a2 not true with signing a noncompete based on my experience. Maybe band 5 and above have more leverage to negotiate, but I think anyone else is going to get what you get accordance to published severance policy. You don’t sign, no severance and you are dismissed any way.

They say to consult an attorney before signing. Might want to handle legally if you bigger payout.

A team member negotiated longer health coverage and to remain on employee phone discount. You do have leverage because they want you to sign a non compete and limited non disclosure. Don't be afraid to negotiate. They can't make you sign immediately.
