Yep, MMwave 5G was a failure. Leadership had 2 mo--n Directors in 2 Midwest markets do the first 2 launch. They wanted Verizon to be the first to launch 5G in the world and were pushing engineering teams keep testing and doing coverage drive testing in the markets but at the last moment got beaten by a South Korean Cellphone company to boast Verizon being the first Wireless Telecom company to launch 5G. During the week they would have vendor fix issues under pressure and have the local Network Performance engineers on call on Saturday to find if they need to test over weekend. While the managers and the 2 mo--n Directors could stay home or continue with weekend schedule while Network team had to cancel their weekend plans or be in limbo till half day on Saturday to know if they need to go in field and test over the weekend.
The Directtors and managers under them would pretend tbis was going to make the company stay at top or have new customers join company because of millimeter wave. The millimeter had alot of rf propagation losses and would hardly penetrate apartments, office building etc. to get to customers.
Leadership gave awards to the 2 mo--n Directors ( who made salaried Network Engineers work over weekends without overtime) for the 5G millimeter wave.
Not to mention the 5G radio's were using 4G core till recently in some markets but Verizon so 4G was needed to get to 5G so if 4G outage happened you could not also use 5G unlike when 4G was launched 3G and 4G networks cores etc were seperate not dependant on 3G at all. Things only got better with C band but they still continue in some areas deploying 5G millimeter.

@e3 Eurpotrash is right! One could effectively argue that Hans and friends allowed Europe to dwarf the USA in homes passed on purpose. Hans is the ONLY person to have significantly increased his net worth at the expense of derailing the company and unleashing a national security concern in the USA. Maria B from Fox Business is calling on Verizon executives to explain why they turned over phone records of Republican Senators and supporters so easily without a fight. So yeah, he is right about the Eurotrah in the company, but wrong about the fiber. It looks like Verizon stopped burying fiber on purpose.
Millimeter is also how far the coverage went.
What else were they going to focus on at that point? Expanding LTE? There were no spectrum auctions for a long time other than mmWave until c band and they went heavy on that and put their focus there. They didn’t do a massive nationwide focus on mmWave and only put it in focused areas that could benefit from it.
Glad someone took out the eurotrash! The truth hurts. Europe is not one country. Glad your not here!
@e0 I am European, we have fiber everywhere. We have had fiber into my home here in the UK for 20 years now. In fact we are turning off all copper based phone lines now. In the area I grew up there are not more copper lines, they have actually been removed from the poles and BT is pulling it up from the ground. In the UK and in Ireland and in France there is very little 5G, only in large cities 5G is active. Everywhere we go in the states our phones sasy 5G and 5Guw, it's amazing actually. In fact here on the British Isles and in France and in Germany we still have GSM! In fact the little village next to us here in France has only GSM... we only have LTE in my town here in France. So before you open your mouth again, try living in Europe before you speak. Why am I posting here, because I worked for VZ for 23 years and moved to France a few years ago. My parents are English and I grew up in the UK.
5G was/in an old European Union idea that Han's ripped off and put some new lipstick on and BS'd the BOD into investing in this EU Make-believe ware instead of continuing with its fiber rollout.
Unlike the sea to sea fiber in the USA, fiber is a foreign concept to Europeans, South Asians, and Africans because of all of their borders and geography issues.
5G was just Han's Hocus Pocus to fool the board into hiring him and giving him a second shot at being CEO to clean up his professional reputation from his last try.
Unfortunately for shareholders, customers, and employees, Hans failed spectacularly again! Then again, what do you expect from an A/P and A/R accountant from Europe?
the frontier buy out will end up the same,a 20billion dollar FLOP mark my words.
This is a board failure… lowell to Hans. Both CEOs failed. Both gone but Board still here. Zero confidence in current Executive Team.. Malady/CFO/Sampath still here who supported
The whole 5G thing flopped. No one made a penny. Use cases never emerged.
Tmo did 5G with more spectrum at half of what VZ paid for.
Now ask why tmo stock is so far ahead than VZ.
No one give a sh-t
