Management needs to have enough people to micromanage,

No need for mgmt, only senior engineers. All mgmt does is regurgitate, poorly, what senior engineers tell them.

@n2 Broadcom empowered mid-management to micromanage, so Broadcom doesn’t have to. When business is not going great, they will eventually get hit too. Management needs to have enough people to micromanage, or they are out too. Every pillar has a GM because they are empowered to run that product line like a separate company. Hock wants to see money; he doesn’t care how it is run. Divisions that didn’t meet the expectation will be used to fund the year end bonuses and RSUs. Nothing to lose from Broadcom side.

I'm really sorry to hear this, OP. The SEs and SAs especially at VMW/ BC are so rock solid. Hiring companies - go get em. They are tough, smart, and diligent.

Unfortunately middle mgmt retained their favorite employees

So true. I had hoped HT would weed that out… hard to believe there is such a thing as middle mgmt at bcom. All useless twáts in middle mgmt, now sycophants as well! At least that can add that to their resume!

@a1 "...everything good about VMWare yet"
Nothing good. It was a socialist company. BC saved us. Unfortunately middle mgmt retained their favorite employees

@dz 2500 global or only US ? In any case this is a big layoff number, specially when VCF had been sold well in last few quarters.

@bw I will receive next vesting. A rumor is that this was done to eliminate a large stock impact due to expected rise in the share price. They don't want a large amount of stock liquidation to occur. I'm told 2500 positions eliminated yesterday.

Sorry to hear this, OP. Best of luck out there.
@a1 - "everything good" about VMWare cost money for little profit - tis why someone else had to come in and conquer that land for better crop yields. Tis Biz. And I'll take AVGO equity over free lunches, feelzies, & DEI hub-bub any day man.

@a1 I’ve gotta say I’ve never seen the waste like VMware had in all of my career. I did a decent sized deal and sales ops called me and said we want to go over who gets paid on this and who had nothing to do with it. There were 69 people getting paid and about 52 of them I knew nothing about them or who they were or what organization they were a part of. VMW was fat because they could be. It needed to end so Betsy sutter no longer had a blank check to pursue her pet social justice issues.

Promox and Veeam!!! SMB needs simple virtualization. Big dog users are stuck.
