Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Now the constant threats make sense.

Michael Dell Encourages Leaders to 'Make a Crisis' — Even If There Isn't One Already. Here's Why.
The 60-year-old CEO of Dell Technologies says crises motivate employees and bring about necessary changes.

This is the fastest way to create burnout. Apply pressure with no end while the CEO is on a private 787 jetting between on vacation spot to another. I’m sorry Michael, but this is not playing nice.

It’s an old school mentality and referred to as neoliberalism. It started in the 70’s. (yes, that’s how outdated it is). It’s considered risky and unethical. It promotes distrust, toxic culture, brand depreciation, distraction from real business threats and most importantly undermines productivity and stability. It eventually backfires. Leadership needs to change their mind set on this or we need new leadership. I’ve only worked at one other company that used this approach. Well, that company no longer exists after three generations of ownership.

How many crises can you manufacturer before the “Boy who cried wolf” effect kicks in?

Ask yourselves ... do you want to work under leadership that promotes this and you are forced to run from fire to fire without the needs necessary to put out those fires? That doesn't sound like fulfilling and gratifying work to me.

Oh no, an organizational crisis! That might be important, if I cared about the organization.

Fortunately, I don't, so anything along these lines will be met with a shrug, a smirk, and another sip of coffee.

Fortunately management does not need to create a crisis on purpose. Their sc--w-ups, outdated work ways, and misplaced priorities produce enough real crises.
