The Ubiquitous Commission Trap at Dell

Dell keeps telling sellers, “Don’t worry about your quota, just go all in.” But the truth is, quotas keep climbing, pay keeps falling, and the rules always tilt in the company’s favor.

When will Dell step up and care for the people driving the revenue?

Every quarter a few “token” sellers get held up as proof the system works. The rest are left grinding harder for less, eating ramen while leadership celebrates the outliers. Everyone knows it’s BS.

The question is simple, how long can Dell keep bleeding its own people before something costly takes more precedence?

I came in excited from the new hire program, but it’s alarming to hear skill and effort don’t really decide your paycheck here. If that’s true, what’s the long-term play for anyone starting their career at Dell?

You drew the golden ticket this round? The psychology of it is quite endearing. Give someone ‘the’ lucky draw, let them call it skill, and you’ve got them defending the very system that’s exploiting them. In system that rewards only a select few, a cap is the final slap.

I hit 350% last half, and they capped me. In a time when no commissions are getting paid, that is certainly hard to justify.

The numbers aren’t designed to reward, they’re designed to keep you quiet.

There are some 20 countries like Japan, Indonesia and UK that have been opened up to trade. Are there any US sales organizations that are exploring areas where they can now compete better? Open sales offices?

Does management still peddle the “work hard, play hard” line?

I know several sellers (myself included) who will be getting less than $100 on their commission check next month. Run

It’s not about the people, it’s about the shareholders. How many of us are getting slighted on commissions? Or should I say insult pay?
