@c1 this is untrue. We were acquired in our years with the clinic that was acquired counting towards our severance I were with the clinic. Five years and five years with well men and I got 10 weeks of severance.

@c1 Partially incorrect.
I've had to unfortunately lay off people from M&As after integration. Their time with the M&A and Optum has counted.

It’s typically one week per fully completed year of service.

If you left and came back it only counts since you came back.

If you joined as part of a company Optum acquired it only counts time with Optum.

I’d believe there are additional other circumstantial situations that apply as well.

Also to keep in mind,

Under Minnesota law, employers are not required to provide severance pay in the event of a mass layoff, even one involving hundreds of employees. What does apply is the federal WARN Act (and Minnesota’s parallel notice rules), which generally requires covered employers (100+ employees) to provide 60 days’ advance written notice to affected workers, unions, and state officials when there is a plant closing or mass layoff, or else pay in lieu of notice. Minnesota also requires that all final wages and accrued benefits be paid promptly, but severance itself is only owed if it’s promised in a contract, collective bargaining agreement, or company policy. If severance is offered in exchange for a release of claims, state and federal law give employees a short period to rescind that agreement.

It's essentially 1 week of pay for the # of years of service you've COMPLETED. For example, if you've been with the company for 9 years and 11 months, you get 9 weeks of your base pay as severance. If you're 10 years and 1 month, you get 10 weeks pay as severance.
